How to Post Anonymously on Facebook Group? (Updated 2024)

For all those who’d like to share any concerns and seek help from fellow group members without revealing your identity, this blog will tell you the step-wise process of how to post anonymously on Facebook group.

For those who don’t have any idea about it –

The “Anonymous post” feature in Facebook groups (which seems to be well-received) allows members to create posts ‘anonymously’ or without disclosing their identity.

They even remain anonymous when replying to other members’ comments on their posts.

This feature is available on both desktop and mobile and is certainly a boon for everyone looking to pour their hearts out without the fear of being judged or ridiculed.

Please note that as of now, this feature is available for all groups under the ‘Parenting’ category only.

How to post anonymously on Facebook group via desktop / laptop?

1. Open Facebook on your desktop or laptop and select the Facebook group you’d like to post anonymously to.

2. Go to the ‘Compose Post’ or ‘Write Something’ section and click on the “Anonymous Post” option you see below.

3. Before making the post, toggle on the switch to “Post Anonymously”.

4. A prompt will appear explaining how anonymous posts work. Confirm by clicking on the button “I want to post anonymously”.

5. Create your post and hit ‘submit’. Once you do and your post is live, your name will appear as “Group member” if you are posting in a private Facebook group.
If you’re posting in a public Facebook group, your name will appear as “Group participant”.

Here’s an example of how an anonymous post looks like in a parenting Facebook group.

How to post anonymously on a Facebook group on iPhone?

1. Open the Facebook app on your iPhone. Go to the menu by clicking on the three horizontal lines and select ‘Groups’ to select the group where you want to post anonymously.

2. Go to the ‘Compose Post’ or ‘Write Something’ section and click on the “Anonymous Post” option you see below.

3. Toggle on the button (as shown below) to Post Anonymously and create your post.

4. You’ll get a pop-up on your screen informing you that your post will be reviewed and approved before publication.

Hit “Submit” to select “Cancel” if you wish to make any changes.

Important Note – Keep in mind that if you post anonymously, your name and profile picture will still be visible to the group admins, moderators, and Facebook. This would help keep the groups safe and ensure that all the posts comply with Facebook’s Community Standards.

How do I post anonymously in a Facebook group via mobile?

1. Open the Facebook app on your Android phone. Go to the menu by clicking on the three horizontal lines below and click on ‘Groups’ to select the Facebook group where you want to post anonymously.

2. Go to the ‘Compose Post’ or ‘Write Something’ section and click on the “Anonymous Post” option you see below.

3. You’ll get a pop-up on your screen informing you that your post will be reviewed and approved before publication. Tap “I want to post Anonymously.”

4. Toggle on the button (as shown below) to Post Anonymously and create your post. Tap “post” to publish your post.

Why can’t I post anonymously on Facebook group? 

It’s primarily because of either of these reasons:

1. Your group admin(s) have not enabled the option to publish anonymous posts.

2. The feature is unavailable in the group you’re posting.
